About Amherst County Criminal History

No single Amherst County office holds every criminal record. Court clerks, the Sheriff's Office, Amherst Police, the regional jail authority, Virginia State Police CARE, VADOC, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry each maintain a different part of the record system. This privately operated resource arranges those official routes by record type, helping readers find the custodian responsible for a court file, police report, booking entry, state history, or registry record.

Why We Built This Site

Finding an Amherst County record often means crossing agency lines. The Sheriff's Office controls reports created by its deputies, but Blue Ridge Regional Jail Authority maintains regional booking and detention files. General District Court and Circuit Court have separate clerks and separate case series. VSP CARE compiles fingerprint-supported Virginia criminal history, while VADOC reports state custody and supervision information. We organize verified government contacts, request methods, portal details, and published costs in one reference. The records still belong to their public custodians, not to us.

What You Will Find Here

  • Criminal court records: official ways to locate and read Amherst County case information
  • Virginia record checks: consent, notarization, and fingerprint procedures published by VSP CARE
  • Custodian contacts: current details for local courts, law enforcement, regional detention, and state agencies
  • Expungement and sealing: an explanation of Virginia's separate remedies and the Amherst court responsible for local petitions

What We Cannot Do

This is a privately operated reference site. It is not part of Amherst County, the Commonwealth of Virginia, or any court, police department, sheriff, jail authority, or state office. As a result:

  • We do not perform official record checks or retrieve a person's criminal history
  • We cannot submit a public-record request, expungement petition, or court filing for a reader
  • We do not certify court papers, criminal histories, police reports, or other government records
  • We cannot provide legal advice about a particular charge, disposition, or request
  • We cannot guarantee that an agency's address, hours, fee, or phone number will remain unchanged

An official or certified record must come directly from its custodian, such as a court clerk, the sheriff, BRRJA, or VSP CARE.

Search Partners

Independent third parties operate search tools displayed on some pages. Each provider sets its own fees, maintains its own data, and is responsible for the results it supplies. If a reader follows one of those tools and buys a service, we may earn a referral payment. That revenue supports free access to the reference material here. It does not give us authority over a partner's records, pricing, or service.
